FoalGuard Foaling and Float Camera Kit

Transmission distance Information

Transmission distances can vary greatly, depending on the power of the transmitter and if you have any obstructions or interference between the camera and the receiver. Wireless cameras work on line of sight, Walls, sheds, large stands of trees, undulation of the ground, heavy traffic, car radios, microwave ovens, overhead power lines other wireless products can all effect range and quality of picture. The Foal Guard cameras have a rated range of 300m with clear line of site and no obstructions or interference. In most instances, breeders have foaling mares within 100 meters of the home.

As with any wireless product they work to optimal distance only when there are no obstructions or interference, the more obstructions the shorter the distance the signal can travel.

A boost antenna or a repeater can be added if there are to many obstructions or outside interference between the camera and the receiver. Interference can come from other wireless appliances, like your own or your neighbours portable phone ( if they live close enough). or if you have a wireless computer network or wireless internet connection, just to name a few.

Multiple cameras

The FoalGuard Receiver has 4 channels which means you can have up to 4 cameras set at separate frequencies at the same time. You can manually or auto scan between the channels with the LCD monitor. Multiple cameras can not be placed to close together or all in a direct line from the receiver as they may interfere with each other.

Wireless

While the camera kits are called wireless they still need a power source as do all wireless systems. Most wireless systems will only plug into mains power or run on built in rechargeable batteries that have a very limited running time. The FoalGuard camera and 2.5" LCD receiver has multiple options.

The LCD has built in rechargeable batteries (up to 2 hrs) and comes with a cradle charger. Both the camera and receiver can connect to a 12V battery source with a cigarette adapter or plug straight into your mains power. (Note: Do not let your LCD batteries stay flat, as it will damage the battery. Also never store a rechargeable battery when it is low or flat as this will prematurely kill the battery. Always recharge fully before storing, even for a few days)

Night Vision

Infra Red leds allow a camera to see in the dark. The amount and size of the leds determine how far a camera can see in the dark. When a camera is working in infra red mode the picture will turn to black and white. Some cameras have to be manually switched between day and night vision. FoalGuard Cameras are 0 LUX and have 26 large Infra Red Leds that automatically turn on when there is insufficient light. This allows you to see up to 15 meters in total dark.

Viewing Angle

Most wireless cameras have a viewing angle of 62° or less which means you can only see 1/3 or less of a square paddock or stable and you can guess where your horse will go when she is having her foal. The FoalGuard cameras have 90° viewing angle which means if you sit the camera on the corner post of a square paddock you will be able to see down both fence lines easily. When mounted correctly in a horse float you will be able to see from just in front of the chest rail to the tail gate no matter how large the float.

Weatherproof

FoalGuards Cameras are weatherproof with a sturdy alloyed shell . They also have an adjustable sun visor to limit glare on the lens. Operating temperatures are -10° to +50°.

Care of your Kit

Do not use any other power leads other than the leads supplied for each component. They have been specially made to run that component. Using another lead will damage the component.

Make sure all rechargeable batteries are fully charged before use and keep them charged on a regular basis. This will ensure longer running time and life of your batteries. Never leave any rechargeable battery low or flat it will cause damage.

Do not install cameras where animals can reach it or the power source. We know they are not edible but some horses will disagree. If your camera is in direct sunlight on a really hot day the metal cover can reach over 50° put a piece of cloth or cardboard over it to stop the metal from heating up to much.

We understand that in the event of any failure, your mare will not wait for a camera kit to be repaired or replaced before she has her foal
